Intellect Case Study Digest - Cloud going mainstream
28/02/2012 10:17:25
Intellect, the UK’s IT trade association of which D2C is a member, today launched a series of cloud case studies that shows that adoption of cloud technology has finally moved from a small number of early adopters to mass use.
The new case studies published as a follow-up to Intellect’s 2009 briefing paper, “The business case for Software as a Service”, show that every day companies and organisations, both large and small, private and public sector, have switched to cloud systems over the past three years.
This trend is endorsed by the US analysts Gartner Group’s 2011 report on the adoption of Cloud CRM systems which showed that Sales Force Automation has moved through the “trough of disillusionment” through to the “scope of enlightenment” and is less than three years away from mainstream adoption. The latest research from Cloud Industry Forum goes further. Their white paper 4 includes a poll of over 300 companies and says:
"The results of the survey clearly validate that “cloud” is becoming more common parlance in business language, that the hype continues to give way to practical adoption and that a broad spectrum of organisations are using cloud based services.
Over half (53 per cent) of all organisations polled already consciously use cloud computing in some shape or form within their organisation, this is a 5 point increase or 10 per cent growth in the last nine months.
When further analysis is undertaken it is clear from the findings of the research that it is the private sector leading the way still at 56 per cent adoption (up 3 points) however, public sector has shown the more dramatic increase gaining 11 points to 49 per cent!"
The case studies cover a wide range of applications including Asset Management from Dell, CRM and Contact Management from Really Simple Systems, Experian QAS and HTK, and Supply Chain Management from ediTRACK along with two of our own customers - Twinfield for accounting and ICAEW for collaboration.
David Terrar, our CEO as well as being Chairman of Intellect’s Software as a Service (SaaS) group, comments “Three years ago, cloud applications were seen as a novel technology with a bright future. This report shows that the future is now the present.”
